Map out your meals and workouts
Today I want to talk about something that can make a huge difference to your health, wellbeing and weight loss journey and that is – planning! Now, I know I’ve written about planning your day in the past, but I just want to give a few examples of why it makes such a difference, because this is something I’ve literally seen first hand with myself and clients.
So, we all know that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes our best intentions can get sidetracked by decision fatigue. You know you might be a busy working mum, juggling the kids and all their schedules, your own work stuff, your house, the meals, and everything on top, including time with your partner, and sometimes when you haven’t planned the meals. your own priorities and self care it all becomes too overwhelming and our choices can turn to crap ones. Do you know what I mean? The decision fatigue sets in and we find ourselves saying…
“I’m too tired to exercise – I’ll do it tomorrow”
“I can’t be bothered to cook – let’s get a take away.”
“I can’t think want to make – you make it” (then our loved ones makes a dirty burger and fries!)
And so on, which we didn’t really want!
When we leave our food and exercise choices to chance, it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed and make choices that don’t align with our goals. And honestly, that’s where planning comes in!
When you take a few moments the night before, or first thing in the morning, to outline your meals and exercise, you set yourself up for success. Here’s how-
1. Reduce Decision Fatigue
By deciding on your meals, workouts and amount of steps you’re going to do ahead of time, you eliminate those last-minute choices that can lead to unhealthy decisions. For example, if you plan for a chicken salad at lunch time but end up at a restaurant that doesn’t have it, you’re more likely to choose something similar, like a tasty tuna or Greek salad, rather than a heavy dish like fried chicken and chips or lasagna.
2. Stay on Track
When you have a plan, even if your day takes unexpected turns, you’re more likely to stick to healthy alternatives. It keeps your goals at the forefront of your mind, guiding you toward better choices throughout the day.
3.Boost Motivation
Knowing you have a plan in place can inspire you to take action. Even if you can’t complete your workout as intended, having it mapped out increases the likelihood of squeezing in some activity. Every little bit counts! 20 sit-ups or 20 squats instead of nothing is always a good thing!
Remember, while your plans and reality may not always align perfectly, you’re much more likely to make healthier choices when you have a plan in place. Planning helps pave the way to happier, healthier days!
So take a moment each evening to map out your meals and workouts for the following day. Your future self will thank you!
