Don’t kill me with your words please!
So, if you know me well, you will know I am a massive fan of affirmations and speaking positively to ourselves, because our words do really create our reality –honestly they do! And so, this week I want to talk about the power of speaking positively to yourself as this can be a life changer to your body, health, and mindset.
So, what is your self-talk like? Is it positive or are you too harsh on yourself?
What positive words do you need to start saying to yourself?
Words really can impact our lives and looking after your vibe is so important. Yes, we are going to have days when we are feeling down and things aren’t necessarily going our way- my goodness I have had my fair share of these days! But I would truly recommend aiming to stay as positive as possible and saying uplifting and kind words to yourself as much as you can as they can massively improve your health and wellbeing – fact!
The other day I was watching an interesting video online about a scientific study conducted on two plants. One plant was spoken to positively by a group of children for 30 days and the other was spoken to negatively by another group of children. After the 30 days, although the plants had the exact same conditions, the plant that had been spoken to negatively had withered and died, whilst the other planet had continued to grow and was healthy. The experiment really made me think about the power of positive and negative energy as well as how important it is that we speak out aloud positively to ourselves. Don’t allow your self to be the withered dying plant. Be the positive thriving plant that surrounds itself with positive energy and positive words.
Change your self-talk
Affirmations are one of the best ways that I know that you can really start working on your own positive self-talk. If you are constantly telling yourself ‘I can’t do this’ and ‘I am not good enough to achieve my dreams’ your thoughts will create your reality and your mindset will hold you back from having the life that you want. To upgrade your mindset, changing your negative self-talk to positive affirmations will be super empowering for you. Start telling yourself ‘I can do this’ and ‘ I have got this.’ It really works. And keep repeating these affirmations to yourself to help you feel stronger and more empowered.
Rubber bands
If you are finding yourself having a lot of negative self-talk, maybe think about wearing a rubber band around your wrist and then whenever you start to speak negatively to yourself – ping it to stop your negative thought pattern. Believe me this works a treat. I used to do this a lot when I was going through a tricky divorce some years ago. I found it really helped me to break my negativity cycle. I would then bring out my affirmations that I had written up on Index cards and keep saying them and repeating them again and again until I felt stronger. By the way one of my affirmations was ‘every day in every way I am stronger and stronger!’ this was my absolute fav affirmation, and it really helped me to stay strong and focused.
What affirmations do you need to hear?
Start looking for positive mantras that you can say and adopt to support you in your new quest for a happier self-talk. I found that when I was trying to remind myself of my new positive mantras and programming, I use to put sticky notes up in visible places with my affirmations on to keep me focused. The note doesn’t have to contain the whole phrase, just enough of a cue to trigger the full phrase in your mind. So, for instance, if you are wanting to adopt a healthier lifestyle and you want to start having more positive self-talk around this, I would truly recommend having phrases up such as ‘I am healthy and happy’, ‘ I am strong and fit’, ‘I love eating healthily’, ‘ I love looking after my body and mind’ etc.
Tape talk
One of the most effective ways to reprogram your self-talk is to record yourself speaking out your new positive affirmations on your smart phone and then play back to yourself the audio recordings of your affirmations. Over the years I have many a time recorded my positive mantras and listened to them. It has really helped me stay on point with my mindset. Give this a go! I also like to record myself at the beginning of a new year telling myself what I will have achieved that year. I imagine myself having achieved all my goals for the year ahead and then I just record myself speaking as if I have made them all happen. I love listening to this throughout the year as it really keeps my inspired and excited about my goals and desires. Woo hoo.
What positive affirmation do you need to start saying to yourself on a daily basis to keep you focused and on the right path? And do you need some help with your positive self-talk and mindset?
